So why do traders keep making this mistake?

Because they think 'I'm a good trader, I'll just trade like I normally do.'

But FundingTraders isn't testing if you're a good trader. They're testing if you're a CONSISTENT trader.

Big difference.

But if your equity curve looks like this - up 15% one week, down 12% the next week, up 10%, down 8% - you're going to blow FundingTraders challenges.

Before you start Phase 1, you need to answer one question: 'What's my risk per trade that keeps me in drawdown limits even if I have 5 losers in a row?'

Most traders don't do this math. They wing it.

Then they're shocked when they hit max drawdown on day 4.

Funded traders do the math BEFORE the challenge. They know their max position size. They know their max trades per day. They know their stop loss levels.

They trade the challenge DIFFERENTLY than live trading.

That's Mistake #1.

Risk Per Trade = Max Drawdown ÷ Number of Losing Trades You Can Afford

Example (FundingTraders Phase 1):
- Max Drawdown: 10%
- Buffer: 8% (stay under limit)
- Consecutive Losers You Can Afford: 8

8% ÷ 8 = 1% risk per trade

With 1% risk per trade, you can have 8 consecutive losers and still stay under max drawdown.

Which one feels safer?

Funded traders use 0.5% to 1% risk per trade. It's slow. It's boring. But it's SAFE.

Failing traders use 2-3% risk per trade because they want to hit the profit target faster. And they blow the account faster.

Write this down: 1% risk per trade.

That's your default for every FundingTraders challenge.

This happens to 67% of traders in Week 1 of Phase 1.

You take a loss. Maybe it was a good trade, just didn't work out. Or maybe you made a dumb mistake.

Either way, you're down 2%.

And you think: 'I need to make that back.'

So you take another trade. Bigger position size. Tighter stop loss. You're SURE this one will work.

It doesn't.

Now you're down 5%.

Panic sets in. You think: 'If I don't recover today, I'll hit max drawdown this week.'

So you go ALL IN on one trade. Double or nothing.

And you blow the account.

Sound familiar?

This happens to 67% of traders in the first week of Phase 1.

Here's the truth:

The MOMENT you start trading to 'make back' a loss, you've already lost.

Because now you're trading emotionally, not strategically.

Your position sizing is wrong. Your entries are impulsive. Your stops are too tight.

FundingTraders doesn't care if you had a bad day yesterday. The drawdown limit is still 10%. You can't 'make up for it' by taking bigger risks.

The fix - and again, we'll cover this in Part 2 - is what I call the Consistency Protocol.

It's a simple rule:

After ANY loss, you STOP for 30 minutes.

You don't look at charts. You don't analyze. You just stop.

Then you ask yourself: 'Was that trade part of my plan, or was it emotional?'

If it was part of your plan, you continue.

If it was emotional, you're done for the day.

This ONE rule has saved traders thousands of dollars in failed challenges.

If it was emotional - meaning you chased, you oversized, you didn't wait for confirmation - then you're DONE for the day.

Then you journal the trade.

What was the setup? Why did I enter? What did I feel? What will I do differently next time?

This prevents 90% of revenge trades.

Because it forces you to PAUSE instead of reacting.

Write this down: After every loss, stop for 30 minutes.

And they fail.

Here's the truth:

Hitting 8% profit is EASY if you survive long enough to do it.

The hard part is staying under 10% drawdown while you wait for the right setups.

Funded traders understand this.

They're not trying to make 8% in a week. They're trying to make 1-2% per week for 4-6 weeks.

Slow. Steady. Boring.

And they pass.

The fix: The Risk-First Mindset.

Every trade you take, ask: 'If this goes against me, will I still be under 10% drawdown?'

If yes, take it.

If no, wait.

FundingTraders gives you UNLIMITED time to hit the 8% profit target in Phase 1.

There's no rush.

But the 10% drawdown limit is PERMANENT. One mistake and you're done.
